Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how Kogan Store uses cookies and browser storage technologies on our marketplace, what types of data are stored, and how you can manage your preferences.

Effective Date: July 2020 Last Updated: July 2020 Author: Kogan Store Marketplace Operations

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website when you visit. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, remember your preferences, and provide basic analytics about how a site is being used. In addition to cookies, websites may also use other browser storage mechanisms such as session storage and local storage, which work in a similar way but have different persistence and scope characteristics.

2. How Kogan Store Uses Browser Storage

Kogan Store uses browser storage for the following functional purposes:

  • Authentication and session management: Seller, admin, and super-admin authentication state is stored in browser session storage to maintain secure access during an active session. This data is cleared when the browser session ends.
  • UI preferences: Theme selection (light or dark mode) and similar interface preferences may be stored in local storage so your preferred experience is maintained across visits.
  • Support identity: When you initiate a support conversation, a support identity token may be stored locally to allow you to continue a previous support interaction.
  • Analytics channel classification: Where AI referral analytics are active, a privacy-safe channel group identifier may be stored. This stores only the referring traffic source category, not personal information.

3. Types of Storage Used

Kogan Store currently uses the following types of browser storage:

  • Session storage: Stores data only for the duration of the current browser session. Data is automatically cleared when you close the browser tab or window. Used primarily for authentication state on protected dashboard pages.
  • Local storage: Stores data persistently in your browser until it is manually cleared. Used for UI preferences and support identity. Local storage does not expire automatically.
  • Cookies: Kogan Store may use cookies where required by integrated third-party services such as authentication providers or analytics platforms. Any cookies set are intended to be strictly functional or privacy-safe analytical in nature.

4. What We Do Not Store

Kogan Store is committed to keeping browser storage use minimal and privacy-respecting. We do not store the following in cookies or browser storage:

  • Full names, email addresses, or phone numbers.
  • Delivery addresses or shipping details.
  • Payment card data or financial information.
  • KYC documents or identity verification data.
  • Passwords or plaintext authentication credentials.
  • Private moderation notes or admin-only content.

5. Third-Party Cookies and Services

Some functionality on Kogan Store depends on third-party services such as Firebase Authentication, Google Fonts, or other integrated platforms. These services may set their own cookies or use browser storage in accordance with their own privacy policies. Kogan Store does not control the cookies or storage set by third-party providers. We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of any third-party service you interact with.

6. Analytics Storage

Where analytics tracking is active on Kogan Store, it is designed to collect only privacy-safe data. Analytics events must not contain names, email addresses, phone numbers, full addresses, payment data, or private moderation content. AI referral classification may store a channel group identifier to help us understand how buyers discover the marketplace, without storing personally identifiable information.

7. Managing Your Cookie and Storage Preferences

You can control and clear cookies and browser storage through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:

  • View and delete stored cookies and site data.
  • Block cookies from specific or all websites.
  • Clear local storage and session storage.
  • Set preferences for cookie acceptance when visiting new sites.

Please note that clearing authentication-related storage will log you out of your Kogan Store account. Clearing preference storage may reset your theme or other UI settings.

Browser-specific instructions for managing cookies and storage can usually be found in the Help or Settings sections of your browser.

8. Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in how Kogan Store uses browser storage or to keep pace with changes in applicable laws and technology. The latest version of this policy will always be published on this page. Continued use of Kogan Store after an update constitutes acknowledgment of the revised policy.
